FROM THE PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Welcome to the 41st season of The Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre! We here at CST couldn’t be more ecstatic and excited to bring this spectacular season packed with some of the best musical theatre gems ever produced on Broadway to you right here (as we always say) in your own backyard!
Kicking things off is the Northwest premiere of the relatively new gem All Shook Up! This fun and entertaining jukebox musical pays tribute to the music of the one and only Elvis Presley. All of your favorite Elvis songs have been masterfully interwoven around a delightful story that insures a good time be had by all! (This is also the show that shot CST alum Cheyenne Jackson to stardom on Broadway!)
Next up is La Cage Aux Folles! With its luscious melodies and flashy showstoppers, many consider this to be the finest score Broadway veteran Jerry Herman (Mame, Hello, Dolly!) has ever written. And remember, ‘just who is who and what is what is quite the question’…
Once Upon A Mattress is the musical that made people sit up and take notice of Carol Burnett when it opened on Broadway in 1959. It is based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale The Princess And The Pea. The laughs roll in by the dozen here so be prepared to be fully entertained!
We are perhaps proudest to bring the musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s epic novel Les Miserables to our stage because our theatre is one of a select few granted the rights to perform this show. It is the most fitting grand finale to what promises to be one of our most powerful seasons ever.
I hope you all take a moment to read the cast bios because I am so proud of our fine company this year. You will notice many new faces making their CST debut and of course many familiar faces that I am happy to welcome back to our stage. Each year when I hold auditions around the country I am humbled by the reputation that CST seems to have garnered over the years among people in the industry. I know that I have cast the cream of the crop for you this year!
Speaking of ‘cream of the crop’ I hope you join me in thanking our talented orchestra members. As part of our ongoing promise to bring you the best theatrical experience possible, it is particularly rewarding to be able to offer complete and full orchestrations played by the finest musicians the Inland Northwest has to offer. Special thanks are due to our Orchestra Contractors Larry and Carolyn Jess
Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of our donors, advertisers, corporate sponsors and loyal season ticket holders. Without your continued and much appreciated support all of this simply would not be possible. Of course, there is always room for more support as we want to be able to continue to grow and keep presenting the highest quality entertainment at reasonable prices forever.
Enjoy the show!
New Season Tickets On Sale Now!
Even though this summer’s applause is still ringing in our ears, it’s fun to be thinking about next year already!
We’re selling season tickets right now for our exciting 2008 Summer Season and all four shows have been announced.
New Broadway show All Shook Up, which takes a pair of Shakespearean comedies, re-sets them in the Midwest of the 1950s, and puts them in a blender with the Elvis Presley songbook!
The Jerry Herman Masterpiece La Cage Aux Folles
The hilarious fractured fairytale Once Upon a Mattress
The international smash-hit, Les Misérables, is perhaps the most famous of all musicals and one of the most performed worldwide. In 2006, the show celebrated its 21st anniversary and became the longest-running West End musical. Based on the novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo its Tony award-winning score includes the songs I Dreamed A Dream, Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, Empty Chairs At Empty Tables, A Little Fall of Rain, Master of the House, and On My Own.
Thank you so much for all your kind words and applause for the 2007 Season. We are very pleased that you liked the shows so much!
A special thanks to our cast, crew, orchestra, operational staff, volunteers and board members for all their hard work and dedication.
We are already working on next season to continue to bring you live professional theatre at it’s very best.
See you next Summer!
